It’ll take collective action to curb coffee cup waste
News of the government’s reservations about a suggested ‘latte levy’ is a disappointment but comes as no surprise. It’s the second time the idea has been rejected.
It’s a frustrating setback for the progress of the war on waste, which has picked up momentum in the last six months. Whilst incentives are positive, we strongly believe that consumers will respond best to a combination of both incentive and penalty.
Government needs to go further and faster to tackle waste crime
It goes without saying that ESA supports the continued commitment by government to try and tackle the scourge of waste crime as evidenced in its recent consultation on proposals to tackle the issue and introduce a new fixed penalty for the waste duty of care.
The consultation contains some helpful policy proposals. However, as is often the way, the government could go further and faster to tackle the problem.
