MPs launch Green Homes Grant survey

A cross-party group of MPs has launched a survey for people who are seeking to access the government’s new Green Homes Grant scheme.

The survey is part of the environmental audit select committee’s (EAC) inquiry on the energy efficiency of existing homes.  

The £2bn Green Homes Grant scheme has been open for applications since 30 September after being announced by the chancellor in July.

The grant is intended to offer homeowners up to £5,000 to make energy efficiency improvements to their homes, with those on lower incomes eligible to receive up to £10,000. 

The survey announced today will ask the views of those who have applied for a Green Homes Grant, seeking information of what measure/s the applicant is hoping to get and how the applicant has found the process of applying. 

The committee will use the results to inform its recommendations in its report to government.  

 The EAC is looking into this area as UK homes amount to 20% of carbon emissions in the UK, with 19 million homes EPC rated D or worse.

Boosting energy efficiency of homes could also reduce energy bills for consumers and can help alleviate fuel poverty which is being experienced by around 2.53 million households in England alone.
