National Apprentice of the Year Award 2024 nominations open

The competition recognises the brightest new electrical talents in the UK, many of which are working at the frontline of net zero and climate resilience.

Organised by Aico, the Apprentice of the Year Award 2024 is now accepting entries, with a closing date of 1st January. In total, 12 nominees will be selected to attend a JTL Training Centre Dat in Birmingham for a final assessment.

At this stage, all contenders will be given a fully loaded state-of-the-art toolkit to keep. The six best candidates will then be invited to the Aico Community Awards, which will take place on 18th April 2024. The overall winner will then be selected, with a grand prize of a top line multi-function tester worth up to £1200, alongside industry-wide recognition for their achievement.

Entry forms and full details can be found here.

‘Our Apprentice of the Year award aims to recognise outstanding apprentices who not only have excellent technical skills but are role models for others in our industry. The electrical professionals of tomorrow are so important to our industry, and we aim to highlight and celebrate their success,’ said Tony Boyle, Aico’s National Sales Manager.

Electricians and electrical engineers are playing an increasingly vital role in Britain’s drive to net zero, in terms of installing technologies in new construction projects and existing developments alike. Without successfully retrofitting ageing properties, the country’s environmental targets will not be met. Earlier this year, Environment Journal ran an in-depth look at new retrofitting academies set up by local authorities to increase their specialist workforces.
